Hiking Panola Mountain State Park in Georgia

Panola Mountain State Park is just a short drive outside of Atlanta.

Panola Mountain State Park is a mountain range that is a part of the larger Stone Mountain Park. Depending on which trail you take, you can expect to spend anywhere between 1 and 3 hours hiking. This popular trail is the easiest of all the Panola trails. The distance of the trail is 2.5 miles, which can take as little as 1 hour.

The trail is not extremely strenuous in terms of its difficulty, but it does have some steep areas. The trail surface is mainly dirt and rock, so I’d recommend hiking boots, particularly ones that support your ankles.

One of the most stunning views on the hike is the Purple Cloud Cliff, a large rock formation that looks like a blanket of purple in the distance.

Panola Mountain is a beautiful place to spend the day hiking. The park is less crowded than other nearby destinations like Stone Mountain, and also beautiful.
