Have you ever gotten hurt half way through a hike?
This was on the way back down from hiking up Ben Vrackie in Scotland. It was amazing! It was a hard climb on the way up, and the views at the top were breathtaking.
On the way back down, my knee started to really hurt with every step. I learned later that, apparently, I overextend my knee when I step down, and it causes an injury to the tendons and ligaments that run along the outer edge of your knee. Unfortunately, we still had to go down, so it didn't matter that my knee was in agony with every step.
The hike took much longer because I had to slow way down on the way back to the cottage. I think it added a couple of hours to what should have been a 4 or 5 hour hike.
It was still worth it, and I'd do it again--but next time with a iliotibial band knee brace!
