The journey up the mountain next to Medenhall Glacier started with fog. The sun was bright though, and kept shining through the forest in a way that was almost ethereal. Everything in that forest was green--the trees, the forest floor. It was all covered with moss and lichen.
This was my favorite part of Alaska. This trek up the mountain was incredible, and I loved every second of it. The forests were filled with things I'd never seen before, and once we got high enough, and the views opened up, there was even more incredible things to see. I'd never seen a glacier before that day. I've seen three in person, now. Two were visible from the top of the mountain.
Nature will surprise you, even when you think you have her tricks all sorted out. And that's why it's always worth a walk in nature.
